American University in Sharjah – LAB INSTRUCTOR

Job Description:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at American University of Sharjah invites applications for the position of Lab Instructor commencing in Fall Semester 2025 (August 2025). The successful candidate is expected to prepare lab materials in consultation with the faculty, provide laboratory instruction to students, and contribute to the continuous improvement of lab course materials.

Job Responsibilities:

• Support students’ extracurricular activities
• Conduct other duties as assigned by the Head of Department
• Assist students in senior design project activities
• Supervise students in a professional manner and grade lab assignments
• Closely administer lab activities and provide timely feedback to faculty
• Work with faculty to develop lab materials for experiments
• Perform regular lab equipment checks and follow up on equipment orders
• Instruct in laboratories related to academic programs in computer science and computer engineering

Job Requirements:

• Familiarity with Xilinx, Actel, or Altera based PLDs Design & Simulation Tools
• Knowledge of Verilog HDL or VHDL
• Familiarity with cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning platforms
• Able to work in an interdisciplinary team environment
• Experience in interfacing sensors and actuators to microcontrollers
• Familiarity with hardware development platforms
• Good communication skills in English (spoken and written)
• Excellent programming skills in C, C++, Java, and Python
• Knowledge of basic networking and network device configuration

Qualification & Experience:

• Master’s degree in computer engineering or a related area
• Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment
• Experience in design using FPGA/PLDs
• Experience in programming microcontrollers such as PIC, Arduino, Particle Photon and Raspberry PI using assembly and high-level languages
