Job Description:
The PR and Media Specialist will work with the wider Strategic Communications and Marketing (SCM) team on the development and execution of a PR and media relations strategy, delivering key messages to local, regional and national media outlets, stakeholders and the higher education community through traditional and digital formats while maintaining and fostering relations with key Arabic and English media outlets.
Job Responsibilities:
- Foster relationships with English and Arabic media outlets (in the UAE, GCC and internationally) and maintain relationships with existing contacts.
- Build and maintain English and Arabic targeted media lists.
- Develop close working relationships with key stakeholders throughout the university to ascertain newsworthy stories from the AUS community.
- Work with the wider SCM team to maximize the impact of PR activities, for example, working with the Digital Marketing Team to promote AUS media coverage.
- Profile AUS faculty achievements, such as impressive research outcomes.
- Profile AUS alumni achievements, such as graduate study achievements, career achievements or entrepreneurial successes.
- Pitch Arabic and English media interviews for AUS leadership and experts.
- Keep abreast of new developments throughout the university (for example, new research, new programs, events, etc.) and link these developments to external issues and challenges being reported in the media.
- Profile AUS student achievements across a variety of fields, including (but not limited to) academics, sports, cultural and community.
- Write English and Arabic press releases, media announcements, speeches and other PR copy and translate any required text from English to
- Arabic or Arabic to English.
- Distribute press releases in a way that ensures maximum media coverage from English and Arabic media outlets.
- Develop and implement a system and processes for identifying relevant stories.
Interview and liaise with subjects of stories in a way that ensures authentic, engaging and accurate story-telling outcomes.
Job Requirements:
- An understanding of the regional and international higher education sector.
- Ability to foster strong professional relationships.
- Outstanding understanding of the English and Arabic language with mastery of English and Arabic grammar and spelling.
- An ability to independently produce outstanding written work.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize discrete information into a cohesive and engaging narrative.
- High-level interpersonal skills and an ability to connect and engage with people from a diverse mix of backgrounds and compel them to share their personal stories.
- An ability to work well within a team environment.
- An ability to produce exceptional results within limited timeframes.
Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, English literature, media, journalism, communications or related field.
- A minimum of four years’ relevant experience as a professional writer or in the public relations field.
- Experience of writing for higher education publications or organizations is highly desirable.
