Job Description:

To lead and provide tax support in a range of taxation areas including planning, advisory, compliance, reporting and audit defence matters.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Line manager or supervisory role in relation to a Tax Officer (or equivalent level contractor) to be based in India;
  • Review contracts, letters of intent, lease agreements, and similar documentation from a tax perspective;
  • Ensuring adherence with UAE VAT and other tax compliances including computation of tax, payment of tax, filing of returns and related compliances;
  • Arranging Tax Residence Certificates from the UAE Federal Tax Authority and other similar tax documentations to avail of tax exemptions;
  • Identifying weaknesses and process improvement opportunities during compliance processes;
  • Working closely with teams on systems such as GDS, Cargo, Revenue Accounting, SAP, Ariba, OneSource, etc. to ensure complete and accurate tax reporting and advising changes from tax perspective;
  • Working closely with “outstation” finance teams on VAT/GST and other tax issues (“outstations” is the term used for overseas branches of airlines);
  • Assist in the preparation of other tax related filings, such as Country-by-Country Reporting;
  • Perform internal processes, such as procurement formalities, budgeting, etc. including managing selection and appointment of external tax consultants;
  • Oversight of Indian tax compliance, including liaison with the India outstation finance team and our external consultant, provision of guidance to financial reporting teams and other stakeholders in relation to Indian taxation;
  • Preparation for the implementation of Corporate Income Tax in the UAE and the OECD’s Pillar 2 regime
  • Maintaining internal records, comply with ‘ICFR’ reporting and prepare internal reports for management;
  • Monitor updates on tax laws, ensure compliance with rules and regulations and advising changes to different teams in the organisation including raising change request for system changes;
  • Support in relation to special projects, such as the implementation of new taxes, internal audits of the tax function, etc;
  • Analysing transactional data and validating the correctness of the same to ensure compliance with VAT/ GST requirements;
  • Working closely with multiple teams, such as Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Treasury, Revenue Accounting, etc. to ensure complete and accurate tax reporting in tax computations and returns filing and advising on system changes and correct reporting, if needed;
  • Managing tax audits, reviews and disputes in UAE, India and across other jurisdictions and preparing adequate documentation in response to tax audits and to support positions taken by the company during audit defences;

Job Requirements:

  • Good practical knowledge of international taxation and Indian taxation;
  • Confidence and experience in operating in an international business environment (for example, having worked for a multi-national company or international advisory firm);
  • Etihad’s workforce at its head office in Abu Dhabi is drawn from a diverse range of nationalities and English is the working language used there; accordingly, the Tax
  • Manager would be expected to have a suitable standard of written and spoken English;
  • Prior “In-house” tax experience will be important;
  • This role is likely to require occasional international business travel, including to India.
  • Appreciation and understanding of the OECD’s Pillar 2 initiative and its impacts on multi-nationals;

Qualification & Experience:

  • Prior experience and knowledge of SAP ERP systems and interfaces is an advantage;
  • Experience working in a dynamic cross-functional team;
  • Experience with internal reporting systems is desirable and/or ability to learn to utilize OneSource Workflow Manager;
  • Prior experience working for an airline, or in a similar industry, combined with experience of ‘GDS’, cargo and passenger revenue accounting systems, will be an advantage;
  • Chartered Accountant (or other relevant professional chartered qualification (e.g., CA, ACA, CPA)) with 7-8 years of experience in tax compliances;
  • Experience in dealing with requests from, or audits conducted by, tax authorities;
