Job Description:
This position provides assistance to physicians with the care and treatment of orthopedic patients including casting, bracing and application of traction. The Orthopedic Cast Technician reports to the Head of the Department.
Job Responsibilities:
- Remain current with orthopedic trends, care and supplies and responsible attitude to professional development.
- Comply with Waste management procedures and policies
- The Orthopedic Cast Technician shall abide by the Internal Regulations, guidelines, protocols, policies and procedure of the Hospital and Hospital’s code of conduct for
- Allied Health Professionals all as amended from time to time by the Hospital at its sole discretion.
- Maintain respect and dignity for all patients regardless of race, color, creed or their reason for attendance.
- Monitor progress during and after the application of each procedure and gives relevant patient education.
- Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities
- Maintain hospital and patient confidentiality at all times.
- Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs
- Health and safety standards are maintained.
- Care the patient by applying back slab, splint, and plaster cast, bandage, brace, traction and other orthopedic appliances according to physicians order and give instructions to the patient for proper care of plaster cast.
- Organizes and maintains stocks of equipment and consumables of the plaster room.
- Perform other skills like dressing, removal of sutures or staples, K-wire/pin and etc as per skills competency evaluation.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
- Assist Orthopedic Consultant/Specialist in wide range of orthopedic surgical procedures e.g. Intra-articular injections, aspiration, post-operative dressings,
- manipulation/reduction or fracture in OPD/OT.
- Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems
- Orthopedic Cast Technician data is accurately documented and maintained as per policy of Hospital/HAAD.
- Perform other duties as appropriate and assigned by Head of the Department of Orthopedics.
- Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements
Qualification & Experience:
- A certificate/diploma holder in Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics.
- At least two 2-3years of relevant experience.
- Fluent in spoken and written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential
