Job Description:
The Senior Art Specialist will be responsible to acquire, care for, develop, display and interpret the museum’s collection of works of art with an aim to inform, educate and entertain the public and museum stakeholders in order to enable the museum to achieve its defined outcomes, responsibilities are not limited to:
Job Responsibilities:
- Positive feedback from relevant museum stakeholders
- To provide content for museum website, future magazine and any other publication materials
- To research, plan, and execute exhibitions with other members of the museum team
- To work closely with the education department to develop programming in line with the museum’s collection and exhibitions
- To present papers at, and represent the museum at relevant conferences and talks
- To produce annual Strategy Plan for the Acquisitions & Curatorial Services
- To agree targets for development of museum networks with Director
- To organize administrative duties associated with the use and care of the collection
- To administer the development and implementation of a collection management system (CMS) for the museum’s collection – including: assembly of photographic records
- To plan, organize, interpret and present exhibitions
- To identify any existing gaps in the collection and advice and support Director on Acquisition Plan
- To network with other museum and art gallery professionals and relevant stakeholders, through meetings and collaborative projects
- To handle and provide technical information, curatorial talks and lectures concerning the museum’s collection to members of the public and researchers
- To develop a project team with effective knowledge-sharing between the team and relevant stakeholders
- Develop and implement regular research projects into the collection

- Be acquainted with the latest theories and best-practices associated with management of museum collections
- Attend training workshops and seminars
- Effectively implement Acquisitions and Curatorial Services programme
- To administer the accessioning, cataloguing, indexing and storing of museum’s collection and monitoring care and security of artworks in storage and on exhibition to the satisfaction of the Museum Curator
- Products and services agreed by Director and the office of the Cultural Advisor
Job Requirements:
- Oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English.
- Competent with computer software: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe illustrator, Word, Excel, Power Point.
- Essential qualifications on the following Competency List: Functional Knowledge/ Skill, Self-Development, Customer Focus, Inter-Personal Relations, Attitude, Planning and Organizing, Team Work, Communication, Innovation, Initiative, Delivery, Work Planning, Quality & Cost Consciousness.
Qualification & Experience:
- Ph.D. or Masters in the discipline of the museum’s specialisation or a relevant qualification.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the museum field.
- Experience and skilled in writing academic texts and catalogue essays.
