Job Description:
A new initiative is being established to provide holistic and transformative Islamic religious and spiritual guidance to women and engage more broadly in social advocacy and impactful scholarly research that benefits the everyday lives of women. The initiative welcomes applicants from individuals of diverse backgrounds who are seeking to work in a value and purpose driven institution committed to excellence, integrity and service to women.
The ideal candidate will be responsible to provide research, writing, data and statistical analysis relating to the religious education, legal rights, economic and social development and overall well-being of women in Gulf societies. As an integral member of the Center’s team, the research analyst delivers high quality output in a timely manner and participates in the development, dissemination and presentation of research findings in an accessible manner. The research analyst also assists in the development of programs that align with these research findings.
Job Responsibilities:
- Writes high quality drafts of working papers, policy briefs, and presentations based on the data work.
- Performs qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, including desk research and field work.
- Documents data methodologies in detail for both internal use and publication.
- Supports scholars with drafting, editing and proof reading of research reports, policy briefs, articles, blogs, and other published materials as well as unpublished materials prepared for and as part of the work of the learning community.
- Creates tables, graphs, and other data visualizations that clearly communicate research findings.
- Collaborates and corresponds with local researchers, practitioners, and policy actors.
- Conducts literature reviews of material from conferences and seminars, government documents, academic journals and policy publications, institutional databases, and reports.
- Participates in learning and dissemination spaces.
- Coordinates and participates in collaborative research projects on women’s religious education, leadership and economic and social development from the development of conceptual frameworks and methodological proposals to the writing, publication, and dissemination of findings.
- Conducts empirical research and policy analysis on global women’s rights and gender-related policy issues.
- Works with the program’s website coordinator to maintain strategic oversight of the content of project-specific web pages and publications.
- Works with designers and communications team on preparation of reports, presentations, and other project communication pieces.
- Assists with the organization of meetings and conferences related to project work.
Job Requirements:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills which includes synthesizing data, analysis, writing and delivery; ability to draft and edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely; Arabic proficiency is an advantage
- Capacity to connect research details and data and translate them into public audiences.
- Knowledge of, and interest in, gender, international development and religious education.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a research team.
- Ability to work with practitioners, researchers and policy makers from multiple country contexts.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
Qualification & Experience:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Islamic Studies; Public Policy, Global Development or International Affairs, with a focus on Gender. 6-8 years of relevant full-time work experience; of which two years’ work experience in quantitative and qualitative research
- Experience with action research, research-practitioner partnerships, professional learning networks and learning communities; Experience working in the MENA region or with Muslim women.
